This is a preliminary list of games that do not yet have ACE modules, coupled with explanations where appropriate. It is intended to provide a starting point for developers and as a means of eliciting further comment from users.
If there are games not listed here that you think would be appropriate for an ACE module, please contact the author of ACE (see the "Read Me" document for contact information).
The following games cannot currently be edited with ACE. In many cases, encryption et. al. is deliberately designed to prevent save game editing. This is not necessarily malicious, as shareware games often need to protect save game data as part of the shareware registration process.
• Carmageddon: Checksum
• Exile series (Exile, Exile II, Exile III): Encryption
• MacBOSS: Encryption and a save game validity check linked to the preferences
• Might & Magic IV - Worlds of Xeen: Encryption?
• Prince of Destruction: Checksum
• TaskMaker, Tomb of the TaskMaker: Encryption, compression and checksum
These games have not yet been thoroughly studied to determine if they could be edited, or will be added at a later date:
• Armor Alley: Not owned - can someone send me a save game?
• Civilisation: data offsets not understood (they appear to move without reference)
• Civilisation II: Not owned
• Dungeon Master 2: Documentation warns against editing.
• Fallout: Not owned - can someone send me a character file?
• Master of Orion I: Planet data is understood, but how to determine total number of planets?
• Master of Orion II: Not owned
• Myth, Myth II: No information on save game format
• Nethergate: Have not had a chance to study yet.
• Odyssey - Legend of Nemesis: Not owned
• Spaceward Ho: Potential for individuals to cheat in networked games?
• Sword Dream, Sword Dream 3D: Strings affect record size.
• Tomb Raider Gold, Tomb Raider II: Not owned (does they have built-in cheats anyway?)
• Warlords: Some offset data known, but ACE cannot yet fully deal with file structure
• Warlords II: Not owned
• Wizardry (Proving Grounds, Bane): Not owned
Some games could be edited, but due to built in cheats, there may be little point in editing the save games. These include:
• Duke Nukem 3D, Shadow Warrior: Do the build in cheats work for multi-player cooperative games? If not, an ACE module could be useful.
